Christmas-New Years falalalalalala
Hopped two ferries to Phuket, the first was typical but the connector from Phi Phi island was a pimped out ride with sweet seats on the upper deck. This boat's staff even served free fresh fruit! Played many backgammon games and enjoyed the Karst formations rising from the sea. It is very beautiful in this area however too many tourists for our liking. In Kata we joined our friend Theo for a nice evening of fine Italian food and witty conversation. The next day had us settling in and renting moped #15. This meant shopping at Villa Market for supplies to start our two week house sitting gig at Theo's phat pad. A wonderful home in the mountains surrounded by a lush green jungle for a great vibe and a swimming pool to chill out in the afternoons. Every evening the frogs would start up a chorus of various ribbeting songs. A great sanctuary away from the typical tourist trappings of southern Phuket. A home away from home that's not our home if you know what I mean. We bought a string of lights and decorated the dried pussy willow for our token Christmas arrangement. There's no presents to buy or wrap and no dinner to prepare as we are going with friends to the Germans at Mediterano for turkey Christmas Eve supper. It is all so simple. Not the same same but completely different! I do love Christmas and all that comes with it but like the song says "a change will do you good"! We're enjoying dips in the pool, day or night, with many competitive games of crib, dominoes, or backgammon. In the evenings it's quiet dinners and pirated dvd's. It's a nice change up to cook again after eating out (great food I might add) for almost three months. Perhaps a vacation from our vacation? We have also enjoyed numerous skype sessions with family and friends. It is so "awesome" to stay in touch with a video to video conference. Had a visit with our old landlord Anders, our first in Phuket. Some things don`t change. He had just woken up from another night out with visiting friends from Denmark. The great Danes really like to party! Which brings us to New Years, out for fine Thai food then off to Kata beach to watch fireworks along with hundreds of Thai`s and tourists alike. Without exaggeration the fireworks and hundreds of glowing rising lanterns lasted for at least 3 hours. BEAUTIFUL! We lit our own symbolic lantern joining in with all the festivities. After getting back to the hacienda by 1:00 a.m. we started to rev it up. Steve called some friends back east which turned into a party session with that side of the country and then got to catch up with a few BC friends and family. Officially it's 2011 but here in Thailand it's 2554, maybe a time warp. Next on the agenda is a Cambodian excursion for mid January. Not too sure what surprises lay ahead but the adventure continues..........
