Great food, friends and Russian traditions

Catching up on our blog, so this is all about 6 weeks old, but blogging along we will go.....Went for a great dinner at our buddy Aussie Dave's and New's for tasty home cooked Thai food. Joining us was another friend, Austrian Herwig, because his woman has been away visiting her family in the north eastern part of Thailand (Isan), he was the lonely bachelor. Now, New being Thai just whips up a few yummy dishes effortlessly, there she stands cooking up a storm with her big prego belly, soon to pop as she is near the end of her gestation. We as honoured guests just sit there and do nothing but visit and eat. Nice to have that family here, while we speak no Thai and with New and her limited English with her Mom and daughter speaking no English at all, a lot can be said with facial expressions, gestures and smiles. Soon we move and will miss the close proximity of our relationship. It's a big island and we'll be about an hour away from them. More time with the Russians and eating their style of food, and enjoying "Russian Traditions". Another wonderful family that we have met. Food is definitely a way to celebrate friendships and different cultures! After supper we went to the windmill by Prom Thep Cape and lit a couple lanterns.
It was very windy, (no wonder they've erected power producing windmills here) and after a few tries, Steve and Stas had a successful launch and we watched the lantern float high into the evening sky. We see this on a nightly basis but never tire of the view. So calming, and surreal, ya were in Thailand! Had a few dances and photos with our Russian friends and said our good byes for this year. They want me to learn a little Russian for our meeting with them next year, now that is another difficult language! I think I should be focusing on learning Thai! Ha ha, wish me luck. Next Steve is off to Pattaya for work to check out the manufacturing plant that is making the fiberglass panels for Mod Com Pools. This is a new concept in pool construction technology that will allow construction of tiled pools in less time and at a lower cost. What a pitch. My job is to go house hunting. We wanted to be much closer to Steve's office as he was doing a one hour commute each way on his rented moped and unfortunately in the rain. It was an unusual weather pattern in March bringing us tons of wet weather throughout the day and Stevo was always getting caught in it! Off I would send him with a few clothing changes, including both our rain jackets! And a wet boy would return. Now for me, I met a couple property management companies, looked at few places and while Steve was out of town one even picked me up and took me the hour trip up island to look at a few more. Nine in total and we picked, I think the perfect place. It is a 15 minute trip for Steve to the office (now on bike rental #20) and for me on my new mountain bike about 10 minutes to the closest beach, Layan. Layan beach is part of one of the national parks and is quiet without the chaos that is seen at many of the busy touristy beaches that surround the island. Many days it is just me and a hand full of people on this beach that goes for miles, joining onto Bang Toa beach. In the late afternoon many Thai's arrive with their families to eat and cool off in the ocean. Nice! Moving day arrives and the company that Steve works for gives him the day off to move and get settled and even loaned us a truck for the day, we thought it was kinda funny as we only have a couple bags and backpacks but as it turned out things take a little longer here to get things done and by the time we put our few things away and purchased food and other staples, the day was eaten up. Rented ride #21 to get "the man" to work. To Steve's delight his boss does not want him on a moped and now has given him a truck to use. Ahhhhhh air con, tunes and unlimited purchases as we are not limited to what we can carry in our packs, nice, very nice! Settling into our new one bedroom villa and lovin it! We even have our own little private pool surrounded by a 10 foot wall so swimming with a suit is optional. It is a gated community with a dozen other villas. There is a security guard outside the entrance with two dogs to bark and keep the unwanted's away. We are in a quiet spot with both Thai's and expats and tourist around, making it for a good blend in the neighborhood. I ride up one way towards the market and see lots of Thai's and if I go the other direction, many high end resorts and golf courses. As said before and will say again "we are so lucky". Choc dee ka (cheers).
