Reporting back to Costa Del Suites in Santa Cruz! This time Leonela gave us her best room, two beds, fridge, wifi, TV, in a bright corner view room. Even her dog Grieb was happy to see us, perhaps cause Steve shared his ice cream, either way! Evenings are a great time to enjoy life outside, playtime for families, teens on skateboards, and the adult men playing volleyball! All this goes on, on a concrete surface!
Next day we take a taxi thru the highlands and down to Garraptero Beach. It's a pretty brick paved 20 min walk past many plant species. One native plant species to the islands is a plant that the giant tortoises feed on, it is found in the dry barren areas and is poisonous. The leaves look like a fig tree and it has small green apples on it. If consumed by humans it will make you very sick! The sap from the trees will burn your skin! Needless to say we stay away from them! At the beach we cool off and wander around to explore the area. One inlet we see has many different plants, all very strange looking. and kinds we have not seen before here in the Galapagos! We go over to a small pond and find two Flamingos! Such beauties to watch! Dinner out at our favourite
spot on this island "the El Giardina" Scrumptious Italian food, however they could take a few lessons on servicing us gringo's as we allways seem to get crappy service accept when we go for breakfast. One night Steve even said to our evening server, "it's okay you don't have to smile" , of course then she did! It sucks as we watch her smile it up with the other diners in the resturant! Last night at our sweet little hotel, Leonela comes by to say adios, we share a few stories and Vino Tinto. She gave us a book about the caves, crevices and volcanos of the island. Her friend is the authour! How great is that! Even got a big huge hug from her Mom! Mui Bueno! Such mixed emotions here while sometimes we feel so ignored and other times so special! Thank you Leonela and we will certainly be reccomending you place!
